About Sofia
Hello and welcome! SO ATELIER is a project that came about as a way to combine my love for photography, and design. My name is Sofia Owen, I’m a photographer with a passion for design. I was born in Bogota, Colombia to a family of theater and film actors. At age 17, I moved to New York where I studied Anthropology and Film. In 2011, I founded my portraiture business Violeta Owen Photography, specializing in contemporary, beauty, and fashion-inspired portraiture. In 2014 I started Graceful and Grateful, a lifestyle blog that began as a personal and creative outlet where I featured my photography as I traveled the world with my family. In recent years I expanded my interests and skills, and in 2017 I created SO ATELIER to further pursue my interests in combining photography, styling, branding, and website design.

Aside from photography and design, SO ATELIER carries a brand of products that combine elegance with warm simplicity. Inspired by the traditional aesthetics of places like Morocco, New York, Japan, and Paris, as well as by textures, patterns, and colors found in the natural world. Currently, the brand offers a wide range of products from home wear to apparel and accessories. SO ATELIER has 4 design lines, and while they complement one another, each has its unique story and character. Civitas is the backbone of the brand, inspired by the sophisticated yet timeless aesthetics of New York and Paris, cities where I spent important years of my life and hold a special place in my heart. Nippon has a touch of minimalism, it is simple and warm, a tribute to the aesthetics and soul of Japanese culture for which I hold great admiration and love. Fauna & Flora is a celebration of the wonders and beauty of the natural world, from its textures to its colors to its specimens and creatures. Voyage is a line that celebrates the aesthetics and designs of a diverse range of cultures around the world.
